As anticipation builds around Vivo’s next-generation foldable smartphone, the company has confirmed that the upcoming Vivo X Fold 6 will feature a specially developed MediaTek Dimensity 9500 Super Edition processor. The chipset has been created jointly by Vivo and MediaTek specifically for foldable devices and advanced AI experiences.
According to company executives, the two firms spent nearly 2 years developing the custom platform. The Dimensity 9500 Super Edition is said to differ from the standard Dimensity 9500 processor currently powering several flagship smartphones. Vivo claims the new chip delivers a 111% improvement in peak NPU performance compared to its predecessor, while reducing power consumption by 56%.
The company stated that the processor has been optimized for large-screen foldable devices and AI-driven functionalities. It is designed to provide enhanced edge AI performance and a more stable AI experience for users.
Several AI features are expected to benefit from the new chipset. Vivo says offline voice transcription will be faster, while AI-generated summaries can be completed up to 57% quicker. Improvements have also been made to AI-powered file management, text summarization, question-and-answer functions, reasoning capabilities, and the Atomic Workbench multitasking feature.
The Vivo X Fold 6 has already been confirmed to run on OriginOS 6 Fold. Leaks suggest the device could feature an 8-inch inner display and a 6.51-inch outer screen. It is also expected to house a large 6,900mAh battery.
On the camera front, reports indicate the foldable smartphone may include a 200MP rear camera sensor alongside a 50MP periscope telephoto lens, positioning it as a premium offering in the foldable smartphone segment.
While Vivo has yet to reveal the official launch date, the latest announcements highlight the company’s strong focus on combining AI capabilities with foldable technology in its upcoming flagship device.
