Google rolls out new Android 17 beta update to address major Pixel device issues

As Google moves closer to the stable release of Android 17, the company has rolled out the Android 17 QPR1 Beta 4 update for eligible Pixel smartphones and tablets. The latest beta version focuses on resolving several issues reported by testers and improving overall device performance.

The update is available for Google Pixel 6 series devices and newer models, along with the Pixel Tablet. According to the release notes, the firmware includes multiple bug fixes aimed at enhancing the user experience.

One of the key issues addressed in the update involves an invisible mouse pointer bug that occurred when using external monitors alongside Work Profile or FLAG_SECURE applications. Google has also fixed a problem that caused the Settings app to freeze or crash when users accessed credential provider settings from a Private Space.

Another notable fix resolves an issue where screenshot notification sounds were linked to call and alert volume controls. Users can now take screenshots silently without affecting notification or alert sounds.

The Android 17 QPR1 Beta 4 update also addresses camera-related performance issues. Google has fixed a bug that caused video recordings to display frame skips and visual jitters when panning the camera at 5x zoom. In addition, the company resolved an issue that prevented Back Tap gestures from functioning properly on the interactive lock screen.

Performance improvements are also included in the update. Google confirmed that graphics driver regressions responsible for reduced device performance have been fixed.

Google first introduced the Android 17 developer beta in February, allowing developers and testers to evaluate new features and identify issues before the public rollout. As with most beta software, earlier versions contained bugs that could impact everyday device usage.

The stable version of Android 17 is expected to launch later this year. Alongside Google’s Pixel lineup, several smartphone manufacturers have also announced participation in the Android 17 Beta Programme.
