Fresh insights from Uber suggest that bike taxi services have not reduced the demand for auto-rickshaws, even during a nearly 2-month suspension in Bengaluru and Mumbai in mid-2025.
The company stated that both bike taxis and auto-rickshaw usage continued to grow during this period, as Indian states review regulations around such services.
According to Uber’s data for Q4 2025, 76% of two- and three-wheeler users in Bengaluru opted only for autos, while 8.8% chose only bike taxis. In Mumbai, nearly 84% of users relied only on autos, while 9.3% used both bikes and autos.
Among users who used both options, autos accounted for 62% of trips in Bengaluru and 65% in Mumbai, showing a strong preference for auto-rickshaws even when bike taxis were available.
Uber also noted that over 500,000 users in Bengaluru took their first bike taxi ride since 2024, indicating growing interest in the service.
The data comes amid regulatory developments. The Karnataka High Court lifted a ban on bike taxis in January 2026 that was imposed in June 2025. Meanwhile, Maharashtra revoked provisional licences of ride-hailing platforms like Ola, Uber, and Rapido in Mumbai in March.
The findings highlight that while bike taxis are gaining traction, they are not replacing traditional transport options like auto-rickshaws.
