Uber has announced 2 large technology and engineering centres in Bengaluru and Hyderabad, together offering seating capacity for nearly 9,600 employees.

The Bengaluru facility will be located at Prestige Lakeshore Drive on Outer Ring Road in Bellandur. Spread across more than 11 lakh square feet, the centre will accommodate 5,000 employees. The Hyderabad centre, coming up at Meenakshi EcoPark in Nanakramguda, will span over 9 lakh square feet with seating capacity for 4,600 employees.

The expansion follows Uber’s recent announcement about setting up its first India data centre in partnership with Adani Group. The facility is expected to become operational later this year.

Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi is currently on a 5-day India visit and recently met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on April 12. Sharing details after the meeting, Khosrowshahi said Uber has significantly expanded its India operations in recent years.

“When we last met in 2022, we made a promise. I’m proud to share we’ve kept it, the number of earners on Uber’s platform in India has quadrupled since we last met,” he posted on X.

He added that discussions focused on Uber’s long-term investment roadmap and the role digital mobility platforms can play in supporting India’s Viksit Bharat vision.

Uber opened its first engineering centre in Asia in Bengaluru in March 2016 and has since expanded across ride-hailing, bike taxis, logistics, auto-rickshaws, and public transport integrations in India.

Former NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant also praised Uber’s India technology investments, saying, “Uber is an example of not just serving India but Create in India by building tech solutions out of world-class tech centres in India.”
