Perplexity’s Comet AI browser expands to iPad with smarter browsing and task automation

Expanding its AI-driven ecosystem, Perplexity has launched its Comet AI browser for iPads, offering native support for iPadOS features like multiple windows and split view.

The browser is now available for download on the Apple App Store. With this update, users can run Comet alongside other apps, making multitasking smoother and more efficient.

Perplexity describes Comet as a browser built around agentic search. This means it can handle multi-step tasks without requiring detailed instructions. Instead of relying only on keyword searches, it uses AI to gather information from across the web and present it in a single, clear response.

The browser shifts traditional browsing into a more interactive and conversation-based experience. It combines tasks, information, and actions into one interface, reducing the need to switch between tabs or apps. It is designed to manage workflows, organise tasks, and minimise distractions like ads.

Comet is especially useful for product comparisons, detailed research, and complex queries. It includes a side-panel assistant that can summarise content, answer follow-up questions, and perform actions such as booking hotels, sending emails, or completing online purchases. The assistant also gives context-aware responses based on what is visible on the screen.

A similar AI-powered browser is ChatGPT Atlas by OpenAI. Launched last year, Atlas is built around ChatGPT and offers contextual assistance through an “Ask ChatGPT” sidebar. It can summarise content, simplify complex information, and rewrite text directly on web pages.

Atlas also includes an Agent mode that allows it to perform tasks with user permission. It can navigate links, fill forms, compare data across tabs, and handle multi-step activities like research or trip planning. The browser also features a memory layer that stores past activity, which users can review or delete at any time.
