Former Deputy CFO steps into the top finance role as IndiGo navigates cost pressures, growth priorities and a changing aviation landscape

InterGlobe Aviation, the parent company of IndiGo, has appointed Kiran Thadimarri as its Chief Financial Officer, effective July 28, 2026. Thadimarri, who was serving as the airline’s Deputy CFO, succeeds Gaurav Negi, who has moved into an advisory role to the Managing Director.

Thadimarri acknowledged the new chapter in a LinkedIn post, describing the appointment as a new journey as CFO and expressing his appreciation to the leadership and colleagues who supported him. His elevation also represents an internal transition, with the airline choosing an executive already familiar with its financial operations and business environment.

A Chartered Accountant with more than 24 years of experience, Thadimarri has worked across controllership, financial planning and analysis, treasury, capital raising, taxation, audit and investor relations. Before taking on the Deputy CFO role at InterGlobe Aviation, his career included leadership positions at InterGlobe Enterprises, Udaan and Genworks Health, along with more than 13 years at General Electric.

Thadimarri takes over the finance function at a significant point for IndiGo. The airline recently reported its second consecutive quarterly loss, with the company facing pressure from higher fuel costs and a challenging operating environment. Reuters reported that IndiGo does not hedge its fuel costs, leaving its margins exposed to movements in crude oil and jet fuel prices.

The airline has also indicated largely flat capacity growth for the current quarter, adding another dimension to the financial agenda facing its new CFO.

For Thadimarri, the CFO mandate therefore extends beyond traditional financial stewardship. Managing cost pressures, maintaining financial discipline, supporting growth plans and balancing investment priorities will be central to the role as IndiGo continues to operate at significant scale.

An Insider Taking the Finance Mandate Forward

The appointment also provides continuity within IndiGo’s finance leadership. Having served as Deputy CFO, Thadimarri comes into the role with an existing understanding of the airline’s financial systems, operating model and strategic priorities.

Gaurav Negi, who had served as CFO since 2022, will transition into an advisory role. The company has not publicly specified a reason for the leadership change, describing the move as a redesignation of Negi and the appointment of Thadimarri.

The transition comes as the aviation sector continues to contend with volatile input costs, capacity decisions and evolving demand dynamics. For a CFO operating in this environment, the role increasingly involves connecting financial performance with operational resilience and long-term business strategy.

The Expanding Role of the Modern CFO

Thadimarri’s appointment also reflects the broader evolution of the CFO role across large enterprises. Finance leaders are increasingly expected to operate as strategic partners to the CEO and business, balancing profitability with investment, resilience, technology and growth.

For IndiGo, those priorities intersect particularly closely. Fuel economics, fleet and capacity decisions, network expansion, capital allocation and operational efficiency all have direct implications for financial performance.

As Thadimarri begins his tenure, the focus will be on how the airline balances near-term financial pressures with its longer-term growth ambitions.

His appointment comes with both continuity and a new mandate: to steer IndiGo’s finance function through a period in which disciplined capital allocation, cost management and strategic decision-making will be central to the airline’s next phase.
