Tamil Nadu is set to strengthen its position as a hub for global capability centres, advanced manufacturing, research and higher education after signing 4 MoUs with global companies and an international university. The projects are expected to create around 2,920 jobs across the state.
The agreements were signed by Guidance Tamil Nadu in the presence of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Thursday. The MoUs were exchanged with Zurich-based insurance company Chubb, wind turbine manufacturer Nordex, South Korean auto-components maker MotiveLink and the University of Western Australia (UWA).
A key project is UWA’s first India campus in Chennai. It will be the first international university to establish operations in Tamil Nadu under the UGC’s Foreign Higher Educational Institutions in India Regulations, 2023.
UWA plans to invest around Rs. 125 crore to develop a 70,000-square-foot campus in Velachery. Operations are expected to begin in October 2026.
Professor Amit Chakma, Vice-Chancellor of UWA, said the campus will initially offer 8 undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in STEM, business and management. It aims to enroll around 300 students in its first intake. UWA is currently ranked among the world’s top 100 universities in the QS World University Rankings.
Nordex will expand its Chennai operations with a new R&D centre. The company already operates a GCC in the city. The new facility will focus on engineering, R&D, supply chain management and digital transformation and is expected to create around 1,000 jobs.
Chubb will also establish its first GCC in Tamil Nadu to support advanced analytics, engineering and other business functions. Chennai was selected due to its established BFSI GCC ecosystem. Nordex and Chubb together are expected to create nearly 1,220 jobs.
MotiveLink will establish a manufacturing facility at Pillaipakkam Industrial Park with an investment of Rs. 300 crore through direct corporate investment and a joint venture. The investment follows Tamil Nadu Industries Minister S. Keerthana’s recent visit to South Korea to attract manufacturing projects.
The government said, “These investments are aligned with the Chief Minister’s vision of promoting innovation-led industrial growth and creating high-quality employment opportunities”.
It added that the projects will support Tamil Nadu’s youth and strengthen its position as a global hub for GCCs, R&D, higher education and advanced manufacturing.
