Enhancing its smart home experience, Google has introduced a new set of updates to the Gemini voice assistant within Google Home, focusing on media playback, notes management, and overall voice interaction.
The update improves how Gemini handles music and playlists. It can now better recognise user playlists even if names are not spoken precisely or if the environment is noisy. Errors such as incorrect artist selection have also been reduced, while voice commands like “pause” are now more responsive.
Gemini has also been upgraded for managing notes and lists. Users can now edit lists using more natural language, perform multiple actions in a single command, and manage content more reliably. For example, users can remove specific items, convert notes into lists, or move items across lists without repeating commands.
The assistant’s overall understanding has also improved. Gemini now uses context clues and speech patterns to better interpret user intent, reducing interruptions and improving accuracy. It can detect when a user has finished speaking, making interactions smoother.
Basic queries such as date and time are now faster, offering quicker responses for simple requests.
The update also introduces enhanced parental controls through digital wellbeing features in the app. Users can set content filters, limit screen time, pause device access, and schedule quiet periods for supervised accounts or guests.
In addition, several performance improvements have been rolled out. These include faster live streaming for Nest cameras on iOS, improved image quality when browsing camera history, and refinements to thermostat settings for better configuration.
The updates are currently rolling out through the Google Home app, as the company continues to expand Gemini’s role as a replacement for its traditional Assistant.
