Google expands AI Mode with connected apps for smarter everyday tasks

Google is enhancing the capabilities of its AI-powered search experience by introducing support for connected third-party apps in AI Mode. The latest update allows users to interact with their favourite services directly within AI Mode, making it easier to complete everyday activities such as shopping, planning events, designing content, and creating music playlists.

The new feature integrates AI Mode with Canva, Instacart, and YouTube Music. Google said the connected apps are designed to simplify routine tasks by allowing users to complete actions across different platforms without leaving the AI experience.

For example, users planning a barbecue can ask AI Mode to generate a grocery list. After linking their Instacart account, the required items can be added directly to the shopping cart, allowing checkout through the Instacart app or website. Users can also receive Canva template recommendations based on their design needs, while music lovers can create playlists using AI Mode and save them directly to YouTube Music.

The connected app support is currently rolling out to users in the US. Google also confirmed that it is working with additional partners and plans to expand support for more apps in the future.

The latest update strengthens Google’s AI ecosystem as competition in AI-powered assistants continues to grow. AI Mode, launched in 2025, is powered by Gemini 3 and enables users to receive AI-generated responses, ask follow-up questions, and explore topics in greater detail.

Google said AI Mode delivers multimodal responses that include images, links, tables, and other relevant content to provide a richer search experience.
