A new AI-focused security feature is making it easier for users to complete browser-based tasks without exposing sensitive login credentials. 1Password has launched 1Password for Claude, a new integration that enables Anthropic’s Claude AI to access websites using credentials stored in a user’s 1Password vault without revealing passwords or one-time passcodes.
The feature allows users to approve Claude’s access to websites that require sign-in, while 1Password securely manages the authentication process. Every login request requires biometric approval before the browser extension automatically fills in the necessary credentials. The passwords remain securely stored in 1Password and are never shared with Claude or Anthropic’s infrastructure.
Access is granted only for the active task and expires automatically once it is completed. After the login process, the extension verifies that credential data is no longer visible on the webpage. If a sign-in attempt fails, it clears the entered credentials before ending the session.
Alongside this integration, 1Password has also introduced Agentic Mode for its browser extension. The feature automatically activates when a supported AI agent controls the browser, allowing access only to the credentials approved for the current task while keeping the rest of the user’s vault locked. The company said Agentic Mode also works independently of the Claude integration and is designed to support additional AI agents in the future.
According to 1Password, the integration is built for browser automation tasks that require secure account access. For example, Claude can sign in to services such as Audible to redeem audiobook credits or access a Stripe account to generate a revenue summary after receiving user approval.
The company said this launch is part of its broader strategy to build secure access controls for AI agents across browsers and developer tools. It had previously introduced its MCP Server for managing developer credentials and plans to expand similar capabilities to more AI-powered workflows.
Currently, 1Password for Claude is available for Mac users on the Business, Family, and Individual plans. It requires the 1Password desktop app and browser extension, along with the Claude desktop app and browser extension. Support for payment cards and identity information will be added in a future update.
