Google adds Gmail-based AI autofill to Chrome across desktop and mobile

Google is expanding Chrome’s Autofill capabilities with a new AI-powered feature that can retrieve relevant information from users’ Gmail accounts and suggest it while they complete online forms.

The update uses Gemini with Personal Intelligence to find details such as order numbers, package tracking information and flight bookings directly from Gmail. It removes the need to open individual emails or search through the inbox to find the required information.

Chrome already supports autofill for basic details, including names, addresses and credit card numbers. The new feature builds on these capabilities by accessing relevant information from Gmail when needed.

A demonstration shared by Google showed how the feature can help users check flight details more quickly. Gemini can retrieve a booking code or ticket number from the relevant email and fill it in without requiring users to locate the message manually.

The feature is designed to make everyday online tasks easier by reducing the need to switch between browser tabs or search through emails. Google expanded Chrome’s Autofill capabilities to Android and iOS earlier this year, and the latest update is rolling out to eligible Gemini in Chrome users on desktop, Android and iOS devices in the United States. Users must have Personal Intelligence enabled to access the feature.

Google has also outlined privacy controls for the update, stating that sensitive data remains encrypted. Users can control the feature and the information it can access through Chrome’s settings.

“You can manage whether enhanced autofill is enabled and what it can access via your Chrome settings”, Google said.

To access the settings, users can open Chrome, tap the 3-dot menu and select Settings.
