In a key development for India’s defence manufacturing ambitions, GE Aerospace and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited have made significant progress toward finalising their collaboration to co-produce F414 jet engines in India.

The two companies have been in discussions for nearly 3 years after signing an agreement to manufacture F414 fighter jet engines locally to power India’s future combat aircraft.

“GE Aerospace and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) are pleased to announce significant progress regarding F414 co-production today, having reached agreement on technical matters,” the company said.

“This agreement marks a significant step forward in strengthening economic growth and advancing cooperation for both India and the U.S. and expands the 40-year partnership between GE Aerospace and HAL,” it added.

The latest progress indicates that both sides have aligned on key technical aspects of the programme, bringing the deal closer to completion.

The collaboration is expected to play a crucial role in strengthening India’s indigenous defence capabilities while deepening long-standing industrial ties between India and the United States.
