Strengthening its focus on user privacy, Discord has announced the global rollout of end-to-end encryption for voice and video calls across its platform.
With this update, users can now communicate more securely, ensuring that no third party can listen to conversations, including Discord itself.
The move marks a major privacy-focused step for Discord’s community of hundreds of millions of users and comes amid rising concerns around data security and private communication on social media platforms.
The rollout also follows recent industry developments where Meta disabled Instagram’s end-to-end encrypted messaging feature earlier this year, while TikTok reportedly chose not to encrypt user messages after transitioning into a US-based company.
Discord had initially introduced end-to-end encrypted voice and video calling in 2024. However, the feature previously required additional setup steps. The company has now expanded the feature to all users automatically, making secure communication more accessible across the platform.
The update is expected to strengthen user trust as privacy and encrypted communication continue to become key priorities for online communities and digital platforms worldwide.
