In a major boost to India’s clean energy infrastructure, ANDRITZ has won a contract to supply critical equipment for a 3,000 MW pumped storage project being developed by Torrent Power in Maharashtra.
The project, known as Saidongar-1 Karjat, is set to become India’s largest pumped storage facility. ANDRITZ will supply 10 pump turbines, motor generators, and associated electromechanical systems as part of the contract. The order, valued in the low 3-digit million euros range, will be recorded in the company’s Q1 2026 intake.
With a planned capacity of 3,000 MW, the project is expected to generate 6,241 GWh of electricity annually. It is also projected to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 4.55 million tonnes each year, supporting India’s transition toward cleaner energy.
Pumped storage plants play a key role in balancing renewable energy. They store excess electricity generated from sources like solar and wind and release it during peak demand, ensuring grid stability.
ANDRITZ’s scope of work includes design, manufacture, installation, testing, and commissioning of the equipment. The execution will be carried out through its India-based facilities, supported by its global network.
“The Saidongar-1 Karjat pumped storage project marks a significant step in Torrent Power’s commitment to driving India’s clean energy transition. As the country’s largest pumped storage plant, it will be key to enabling round-the-clock renewable power,” stated Torrent Energy Storage Solutions, a subsidiary of Torrent Power.
This is the first order placed by Torrent Power with ANDRITZ. The company is currently involved in 7 pumped storage projects in India, highlighting increasing investments in energy storage infrastructure.
