In a major push to India’s AI infrastructure, Bharti Airtel has partnered with Google and Adani Group to develop a large-scale AI Hub in Visakhapatnam. The initiative is aimed at strengthening India’s position in global digital innovation and accelerating sustainable growth.

Highlighting the significance of the project, Gopal Vittal said, “With Visakhapatnam emerging as a new hub on the world’s AI map, we will ensure that India sets the pace for innovation and sustainable growth, not just for our people, but for the whole world.”

He added, “Our full stack of best-in-class data centers, use of green power, pan-India ultra-low latency fiber and a next-gen cable landing station will enable large-scale, world-class AI infrastructure in Vizag.”

The foundation stone for the mega data center project was laid by N Chandrababu Naidu, in the presence of Ashwini Vaishnaw, Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, Ram Mohan Naidu, and senior executives from Google, Airtel, and Adani ConneX.

Speaking at the event, N Chandrababu Naidu said, “With the strong support of the Central Government and in line with the vision of a developed India, this partnership with Google reflects our commitment to combining cutting-edge innovation with inclusive growth, ensuring opportunities reach every community across Andhra Pradesh.”

Google had earlier announced an investment of $15 billion in the project, making it one of the largest foreign direct investments in India. The AI-ready data center will have a capacity of 1 GW and will be developed across 600 acres in Tharluwada, Adavivaram, and Rambilli.

Thomas Kurian said, “Today’s groundbreaking is a powerful realisation of our shared vision with the Indian government, and an inflection point for the country’s AI-native future.” He added that the development will unlock new economic opportunities and act as a catalyst for growth driven by strong community partnerships.
