In a quiet global rollout, Xiaomi’s sub-brand Redmi has introduced the Redmi Pad 2 9.7, a compact tablet aimed at performance and long battery life in an affordable segment.

The device has been launched in select global markets in 2 colour options — Graphite Gray and Silver — and multiple storage variants, including LTE-enabled models.

The base model with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage is priced at MYR 549 (about Rs. 13,000). The 128GB variant with the same RAM is priced at MYR 599 (around Rs. 14,000). The 4G LTE versions cost MYR 649 (about Rs. 16,000) and MYR 699 (around Rs. 17,000). The tablet is currently available in Malaysia and Singapore via Xiaomi’s online store.

The tablet runs HyperOS 3 based on Android 16. It features a 9.7-inch 2K display (2,048 x 1,280 pixels) with up to 120Hz refresh rate, 240Hz touch sampling rate, 500 nits brightness, 250 ppi density, and a 16:10 aspect ratio. It also comes with TÜV Rheinland Low Blue Light, Flicker Free, and Circadian Friendly certifications.

Powering the device is a 6nm octa-core Snapdragon 6s Gen 2 processor, delivering up to 2.9GHz clock speed and a claimed 34% performance boost over the Redmi Pad SE 8.7. It includes an Adreno 610 GPU, up to 4GB LPDDR4x RAM, and up to 128GB UFS 2.2 storage, expandable up to 2TB via microSD.

For cameras, it has an 8MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and a 5MP front camera with f/2.2 aperture, supporting video recording up to 1080p/30fps.

The tablet is backed by a 7,600mAh battery with 18W fast charging, offering over 15 hours of video playback, 18 hours of audio, and 16 hours of reading. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, dual-band Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 5.0. It measures 226.51×147.97×7.4mm and weighs about 406g.
