A sharp rise in artificial intelligence-driven music creation is reshaping streaming platforms, with Deezer revealing that a significant share of its daily uploads now comes from AI-generated content.
The Paris-based music streaming company stated that nearly 75,000 AI-generated songs are being uploaded to its platform every day. This accounts for around 44% of all daily uploads, marking a steep increase from 10,000 tracks per day just over a year ago.
The surge is being driven by the growing popularity of AI music tools, including platforms like Suno AI and Google’s Lyria-powered Gemini. Deezer is among the first streaming platforms to quantify the scale of this shift in music creation.
Despite the high volume of uploads, listener engagement with AI-generated music remains relatively low. The company found that these tracks account for only 1–3% of total streams on the platform.
However, Deezer has identified a concerning trend linked to these uploads. According to the company, about 85% of streams associated with AI-generated songs are fraudulent. This involves stream manipulation, where bot-driven systems artificially inflate play counts to generate illegitimate revenue. Deezer confirmed that such tracks have been demonetised.
“AI-generated music is now far from a marginal phenomenon, and as daily deliveries keep increasing, we hope the whole music ecosystem will join us in taking action to help safeguard artists’ rights and promote transparency for fans,” said Alexis Lanternier, CEO of Deezer.
To address the issue, the platform has introduced detection systems that identify and label fully AI-generated tracks. Once flagged, these songs are excluded from algorithmic recommendations and editorial playlists to prevent them from impacting artist royalties.
Deezer also announced that its AI detection technology is now available for licensing, allowing other platforms to adopt similar safeguards.
The development highlights growing concerns around transparency, monetisation, and the impact of AI on the global music industry.
