Adidas has confirmed job cuts within its technology organisation in India, as reports indicate that around 350 or more employees could be affected at its India Tech Hub in Gurugram.
The company has not disclosed the exact number of roles being eliminated. However, reports suggest the cuts could impact roughly 45–50% of the hub’s workforce of around 700 employees, including software engineers, data scientists and data engineers.
In a statement, Adidas said it had made the “difficult decision” to reduce a number of roles within its Technology organisation in India. The company said the move is part of efforts to align its operating model with changing business requirements.
“We are deeply grateful to our colleagues for their many contributions to Adidas. We are committed to supporting our impacted colleagues with transition assistance during this time,” the company said.
Adidas added that the restructuring is intended to simplify parts of the organisation, strengthen critical capabilities and support its long-term business and technology goals.
According to the report, employees were informed about the changes during a town hall on September 15. The affected employees have reportedly been divided into 2 groups.
Some employees received exit letters on the same day, while another group has been asked to continue until December. These employees are expected to complete handovers to teams at other technology hubs while exploring other opportunities within the organisation.
Employees who do not secure another internal role by then have reportedly been told that December 15 will be their last working day. Details regarding severance packages, notice pay and redeployment support have not been confirmed.
Adidas’ Gurugram office houses its local marketing organisation as well as one of the company’s Global Engineering Tech Hubs. The company has also expanded its presence in India, including the opening of a Global Business Services centre in Chennai in 2024.
