Adani Group has proposed an investment of ₹1 trillion to set up a large-scale AI data centre in Odisha, seeking around 250 acres of land from the state government. If approved, the project would strengthen Odisha’s position as a major digital infrastructure hub and rank among India’s largest AI data centre developments.
The proposal is currently under evaluation by the Odisha government, which is assessing land availability, power supply, water resources, connectivity, and other infrastructure requirements. According to officials, Cuttack (Kataka) is being considered as a potential location, although no final decision has been made.
The proposed facility will be a standalone investment by Adani Group and not a joint venture. The company has also requested incentives from the state government. Once the evaluation is completed, the proposal will be submitted to the high-level clearance authority, headed by the Chief Minister, for statutory approvals.
The project aligns with Adani Group’s broader plan to invest $100 billion by 2035 in renewable energy-powered, hyperscale, AI-ready data centres. The company already operates a data centre in Chennai through a joint venture with EdgeConneX and is developing additional facilities in Mumbai, Pune, and Hyderabad.
Odisha is actively promoting investments in AI, electronics, semiconductors, and digital infrastructure. Existing projects in the state include the Reserve Bank of India’s data centre worth ₹169 crore, the state’s next-generation data centre with an investment of ₹266.48 crore, Adani’s existing ₹800 crore hyperscale data centre MoU, Zoho Corporation’s ₹306 crore data centre in Khordha, and HCLTech’s ₹14,257 crore AI-optimised data centre planned within the upcoming Sovereign AI Park.
The proposal also reflects the growing competition among Indian companies to build AI infrastructure. Google is developing a 1 GW AI data centre in Visakhapatnam with an estimated investment of $15 billion, while Reliance Industries has proposed a ₹1.08 trillion gigascale AI data centre and cable landing station in Andhra Pradesh, for which 856 acres of land have already been allotted.
