WhatsApp rolls out new features to simplify group communication

Managing busy group conversations is set to become easier as WhatsApp rolls out new features focused on polls, group notifications and faster chat creation. The updates give users more control over polls, allow entire groups to be notified at once and make it easier to start a new group with people from an existing chat.

Polls get deadlines and private voting

WhatsApp has enhanced its polling tool with an option to set an end time. Once the deadline passes, voting will automatically close. Users can also hide voter names, allowing participants to share their choices privately.

Poll creators can edit questions within 15 minutes of posting. This allows them to correct typos or clarify options without deleting the poll and creating a new one.

@all enables group-wide alerts

WhatsApp is also rolling out the @all mention feature. It allows users to notify every member of a group with a single tag instead of mentioning people individually.

The feature is designed for time-sensitive updates, including office or school closures, event reminders and last-minute schedule changes.

In groups with more than 32 members, only administrators will be able to use @all. The alert can reach members even when the group is muted. However, users can choose to mute @all notifications through the app’s notification settings.

New group chats from existing groups

WhatsApp is adding another feature that lets users create a new group directly from an existing group without manually adding participants again. It can be used for side conversations, event planning, surprise parties or separate discussions without cluttering the original chat.

The new features are being rolled out gradually and will become available to users over the coming weeks.
