Qualcomm’s new customised mobile platform is set to make its debut in China with the Redmi K100 Pro on August 11. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 V Series, model SM8850-1-AB, is designed to deliver the same CPU performance as the standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, but comes with a slightly reduced GPU setup.

The new octa-core chipset uses a 64-bit architecture with 2 prime cores clocked at 4.6GHz and 6 performance cores reaching up to 3.62GHz. However, Qualcomm has removed 1 Adreno GPU slice compared with the standard version.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 V Series has 2 Adreno GPU slices running at 1.2GHz. The standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 has 3 slices at 1.2GHz, while the customised Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy features 3 slices at 1.3GHz.

This configuration suggests that the new chip will offer lower graphics performance, potentially bringing it closer to the regular Snapdragon 8 Gen 5. The V Series also has 12MB of Adreno High Performance Memory, compared with 18MB on the standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.

For connectivity and processing, the chipset includes the Qualcomm FastConnect 7900 System, Qualcomm X85 5G Modem-RF, Spectra Image Signal Processor, Qualcomm Hexagon NPU and Qualcomm Sensing Hub. It also supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0.

The Redmi K100 Pro will be the first smartphone to feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 V Series when it launches in China on August 11.

The phone is confirmed to pack an 8,580mAh silicon-carbon battery with 100W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging. It will also feature a 6.59-inch OLED display with 1.5K resolution and an IP68-rated build.
