Google appears to be expanding its new Google Maps immersive navigation interface to Android Auto, bringing a more detailed and visually enhanced driving experience. The rollout seems to be happening gradually through a server-side update, meaning users may receive the feature at different times.
Google first introduced the redesigned navigation interface in March, and while some CarPlay users gained access earlier, Android Auto users continued using the previous interface. That now appears to be changing.
A Reddit user, radgatt, recently shared screenshots showing the new immersive Google Maps interface running on Android Auto. The updated design features a 3D navigation view with clearly visible flyovers, 3D buildings, and even individual trees, making navigation more detailed and easier to follow.
The user reported receiving the new interface after updating to Android Auto v17.3, which was released recently and is currently rolling out. However, another user running the latest beta versions of both Android Auto and Google Maps said the feature was still unavailable. This suggests the rollout is likely controlled through Google’s servers rather than being tied directly to the latest app version.
The immersive navigation experience is currently available in the US across iOS, CarPlay, Android, Android Auto, and vehicles with Google built-in. However, the rollout is progressing gradually.
Google has not announced when the feature will expand to other countries. Users outside the US will need to wait until the company begins a wider global rollout.
