Uttar Pradesh Police begins Operation Cy-Vajra to strengthen cybercrime enforcement

In a renewed effort to tackle cybercrime, Uttar Pradesh Police has launched a 7-day statewide special drive, “Operation Cy-Vajra,” following directions from Director General of Police Rajeev Krishna. The initiative aims to intensify action against cyber criminals while strengthening victim-centric policing and improving financial recovery in cyber fraud cases.

The decision was announced during a high-level statewide review meeting held on July 6, where senior police officials assessed cybercrime control measures, reviewed cyber policing strategies, and discussed ways to ensure quicker financial relief for victims. The meeting was attended by DGP Cybercrime BK Singh, DIG Cybercrime Pawan Kumar, senior officers from police commissionerates and districts, cybercrime nodal officers, cyber police station personnel, and officials from the cybercrime headquarters.

Rajeev Krishna said cybercrime control remains one of the 10 key priority areas identified after he assumed office, in line with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s directions for strict and result-oriented action against cyber criminals.

Reviewing the state’s performance between April 1, 2025, and June 30, 2026, the DGP said police blocked 2,94,024 suspicious mobile numbers and 1,81,405 mobile devices (IMEIs) allegedly linked to cybercrime activities.

During the same period, Uttar Pradesh Police also placed a lien or hold on ₹530 crore involved in cyber financial fraud cases, preventing the money from reaching cyber criminals.

The DGP directed all police commissionerates and district units to ensure the prompt registration and disposal of cybercrime complaints so that the maximum amount of fraudulent funds can be frozen before being transferred.

The review also covered the implementation of the Money Restoration Module (MRM) and Grievance Redressal Module (GRM) developed by the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to strengthen cyber fraud response and victim assistance.
