A US computer science professor has been awarded 528,137 dollars in funding from the National Science Foundation for a research project being carried out in collaboration with India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to develop advanced technologies for precision soyabean breeding. It will run from October 2026 to September 2029.
The project aims to build an AI-powered system to improve soybean breeding and farming. Researchers will use smart sensors, wireless networks, drone data and artificial intelligence to monitor crops, soil and weather conditions. The technology will help farmers tackle pests, diseases and changing climate conditions.
The project includes researchers from universities and agricultural institutes in both the US and India, including IIT Delhi and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research. Officials say the research could support better crop varieties, improve food security and strengthen India-US scientific cooperation.
