Steam players may soon be able to access Ubisoft games without opening the Ubisoft Connect PC launcher. It has started testing a new tool that aims to make game launches on Valve’s platform simpler.
The company announced Ubisoft Connect Services, which will allow players to launch supported games and use their features directly through Steam. At present, Ubisoft games on Steam require the Connect PC launcher to open every time a player starts a game.
The feature is being tested first with Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. Ubisoft Connect Services will let players access the game without installing or launching the Ubisoft Connect PC app.
Players will also be able to use features such as cross-progression, cross-play, player safety, challenges and rewards through the new service.
“This first version is an initial step toward a smoother and more streamlined launch experience on Steam,” they said in the community post on Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown’s Steam page. “We will continue to iterate and improve its Connect Services over time, with the goal of delivering the features and services players use and expect while making the Steam experience as seamless as possible.”
They said the service will continue to develop and could be introduced to more of its Steam titles in the future. However, the feature is still under testing, and the company has not confirmed a release date.
It is also unclear whether Ubisoft Connect Services will be extended to the company’s games on the Epic Games Store for PC.
The Ubisoft Connect PC launcher, earlier known as Uplay, is a digital content platform and storefront for it’s first-party games. It can be accessed through a PC app or inside games on PCs and consoles. Players must link their Ubisoft account to Ubisoft Connect to use the service.
