In a major push towards digital transformation, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is set to integrate agentic AI into 50% of its government sectors within the next 2 years.
The initiative is aimed at redesigning policies, processes, and procedures using advanced AI capabilities. These systems are expected to operate proactively, delivering higher accuracy and efficiency in government functions.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said, “Today, AI models can monitor changes, provide analyses, offer recommendations, manage operations, and run an independent series of actions without human intervention… AI will be our government executive partner to support decisions, enhance services, boost the efficiency of operations, and even evaluate results and introduce improvements in real time.”
With this move, the UAE is expected to become the first country to implement agentic AI at such a large scale across public sector operations. The rollout is also projected to reduce operational costs, improve productivity, and enable faster service delivery.
The government will also invest in training its workforce, ensuring employees develop strong expertise in AI tools through continuous and specialised programmes. Sheikh Mohammed added, “As a result, we will have the best experts in the world in government transformation towards artificial intelligence technologies.”
The implementation will follow a phased approach across ministries and federal entities, guided by ongoing performance and impact assessments. This method is designed to ensure effective adoption and optimal outcomes before expanding further.
The initiative builds on the UAE’s early leadership in AI. In 2017, the country became the first to appoint a Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence and launched the UAE Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2031 under the UAE Centennial 2071 vision.
