In a move to strengthen oversight on cybercrime offenders, the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB), along with law and order police units, launched a statewide drive titled “Operation Crackdown 2.0” starting Sunday.
The initiative focuses on monitoring previously arrested individuals to prevent repeat offences and curb continued involvement in illegal activities. According to TGCSB Director Shikha Goel, the operation targets high-risk offenders linked to major financial cyber frauds and multiple criminal cases.
During 2024–2025, a total of 3,567 cybercrime accused were arrested across Telangana. From this, 614 individuals residing in the state were identified, and a select group was shortlisted for detailed verification. TGCSB implemented a standardised verification protocol to ensure uniformity and improve coordination between cybercrime units and field police teams.
Police teams conducted simultaneous verification of accused individuals across locations. This coordinated effort allowed authorities to share criminal histories with respective jurisdictional police stations, improving surveillance and inter-departmental coordination.
On the first day of the operation, 335 individuals were verified. These accused are linked to 480 cases in Telangana and 1,233 cases across India.
Officials said the drive has helped identify individuals requiring closer monitoring. Collected data is now being analysed for further action and strategic follow-up. In cases showing repeat involvement or suspicious activity, strict surveillance measures have been initiated, including opening suspect sheets as per Police Standing Orders, Shikha Goel added.
The operation marks a significant step towards proactive cybercrime prevention and stronger law enforcement coordination across the state.
