Meta is reportedly expanding the capabilities of its Ray-Ban smart glasses with software updates that add walking directions, Spatial Audio and new accessibility controls. The changes are being rolled out through the Meta AI app, with availability varying between users.
Software version 128 is reportedly bringing turn-by-turn walking navigation to the Ray-Ban Meta glasses. Users can ask Meta AI for directions to a destination, after which the glasses guide them along the route.
The navigation feature uses location data from the connected smartphone, reducing the need for users to repeatedly check their phones while walking.
Users can also reportedly begin navigation from their phone. They can search for a destination in a mapping app, share it with Meta AI and select their connected glasses to receive directions. If the destination is too far to walk, the glasses can send driving directions to the connected phone instead.
Version 128 is also said to introduce Spatial Audio along with other improvements. The walking navigation feature has reportedly become broadly available through an update to the Meta AI app, although the rollout may differ between users.
Meanwhile, version 129 focuses on giving users greater control over audio. It reportedly adds a Mono Audio option, which plays the same sound through both speakers rather than separating audio between the left and right channels. This could be useful for users who hear better on one side.
The update is also said to introduce an Audio Balance control. Users can shift sound towards either the left or right speaker. Both options are reportedly available under the Audio section in the glasses’ device settings.
Version 129 is still being rolled out, while version 128 is reportedly more widely available.
