Qualcomm is moving to address one of the key limitations faced by users of its Snapdragon X-powered laptops by bringing mainstream Linux support to the platform.
The company announced at its annual Snapdragon Summit that Linux support is coming to Snapdragon laptops, starting with Debian. Support is expected to arrive before the end of 2026.
Snapdragon laptops have gained attention for their performance and battery efficiency, but limited support for mainstream Linux distributions has remained a concern for power users. While Snapdragon chips have long powered Android devices, initial Snapdragon X laptops did not offer broad support for mainstream Linux distributions.
Qualcomm said Linux compatibility will expand further in 2027. Devices based on Snapdragon X2 are expected to support Ubuntu early in the year.
ASUS is also targeting Ubuntu support for its Snapdragon X2-powered hardware before mid-2027.
The development could make Snapdragon-based laptops more accessible to Linux users, as several Linux distributions continue to improve usability and compatibility across modern computing hardware.
