Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has highlighted Pune’s potential to emerge as a major destination for Global Capability Centres (GCCs) during a high-level industry dialogue titled “Why Not Pune”. The discussion brought together representatives from IT, technology, manufacturing and other sectors to understand their expectations and requirements.
Addressing the interaction through video conferencing, Fadnavis pointed to Pune’s established manufacturing, technology and IT ecosystem as key strengths for attracting GCCs. He also highlighted ongoing infrastructure development, including the metro, ring road, tunnels and transport and communication projects.
The Maharashtra GCC Policy 2025 targets around 400 new GCCs and 4 lakh high-skilled jobs across the state. The policy identifies Pune as a technology and research hub within Maharashtra’s broader GCC strategy.
Fadnavis urged industry representatives to share feedback on policy gaps, operational challenges and areas where government intervention may be required. He said feasible suggestions would be considered and emphasised coordination between the government, administration and industry in building the GCC ecosystem in Pune.
Pune Mayor Manjusha Nagpure said such interactions could strengthen links between the city, industry and the global business community.
Pune Municipal Corporation Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram said the initiative was intended to improve communication between industry and the administration, outline the city’s development plans and familiarise businesses with upcoming infrastructure projects and opportunities.
Ram also said the dialogue would allow industry leaders to share their expectations and suggestions, helping make development plans more practical and responsive to business requirements.
The state’s broader GCC policy seeks to attract high-value investments, strengthen industry-academia links and expand Maharashtra’s role in global technology, research and digital transformation.
