PhonePe has announced a major leadership change by appointing Srijon Biswas as its new Chief Technology Officer (CTO) with immediate effect. The move is part of the company’s efforts to strengthen its technology leadership as it continues to expand its digital ecosystem.
Biswas has been associated with PhonePe for nearly 10 years and most recently served as the Head of Engineering. In his new role, he will lead the company’s entire engineering organisation and will continue to report to PhonePe Co-founder Rahul Chari, according to the company.
As part of the leadership restructuring, Rahul Chari has transitioned from Chief Technology Officer to Chief Product and Technology Officer (CPTO) while continuing in his role as co-founder.
Chari’s responsibilities already included technology, product, trust and safety, and data sciences and analytics. His portfolio has now expanded further to include customer experience and artificial intelligence (AI), along with several strategic initiatives across the PhonePe Group.
Commenting on the leadership changes, Chari said, “As PhonePe continues to expand and grow, strengthening our technology leadership is a natural step. Srijon’s appointment ensures we continue to invest deeply in engineering excellence while building the technology platforms that will power the future of digital India.”
Founded in 2016, PhonePe has grown into one of India’s leading fintech platforms and currently serves more than 70 crore registered users.
The appointments reflect the company’s focus on strengthening engineering capabilities while accelerating innovation across technology, AI, and customer experience to support its next phase of growth.
