NASA schedules briefing on Anil Menon’s debut space mission to ISS

NASA will host a media briefing to discuss astronaut Anil Menon’s upcoming mission to the International Space Station, marking a key step ahead of his first spaceflight.

The news conference is scheduled for April 29 at 1:45 p.m. EDT from NASA’s Johnson Space Center and will be streamed live on the agency’s YouTube channel. Individual interviews with Menon will follow at 3 p.m.

Menon will fly aboard the Soyuz MS-29 mission, targeted for launch on July 14. He will be joined by Pyotr Dubrov and Anna Kikina from Roscosmos for an 8-month stay as part of Expeditions 74 and 75. This will be Menon’s first mission to space.

Selected as a NASA astronaut in 2021, Menon completed his training with the 23rd astronaut class in 2024 and has since been preparing for this assignment.

Born and raised in Minneapolis, Menon is an emergency medicine physician, mechanical engineer, and colonel in the United States Space Force. He holds a degree in neurobiology from Harvard University and earned both a master’s in mechanical engineering and a medical degree from Stanford University. He completed his residencies in emergency medicine and aerospace medicine at Stanford and the University of Texas Medical Branch.

Menon continues to practice emergency medicine at Memorial Hermann’s Texas Medical Center and teaches residents at the University of Texas. At NASA, he has served as an expedition flight surgeon supporting astronauts aboard the space station. Earlier, he worked at SpaceX as its first flight surgeon, contributing to the launch of the first crewed Dragon spacecraft during the Demo-2 mission in 2020.

For over 25 years, astronauts have continuously lived and worked aboard the International Space Station, enabling scientific research not possible on Earth. The station remains central to NASA’s efforts to prepare for long-duration missions, including those under the Artemis program and future human exploration of Mars.
