Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will jointly lay the foundation stone for the Rayalaseema Horticulture Hub at Madanapalle in Annamayya district on October 2. The project is planned with a total investment of Rs 1 lakh crore.
Under the plan, around Rs 40,000 crore is expected through government investment under the Purvodaya programme, while another Rs 60,000 crore is expected from private investment. The initiative aims to develop Rayalaseema into a major horticulture centre through irrigation, connectivity, warehousing and other infrastructure.
The project will cover the 4 erstwhile districts of Rayalaseema along with Prakasam and Nellore districts. Its focus is on expanding horticulture activity in drought-prone areas, strengthening the regional agricultural economy and improving opportunities for farmers.
The state government is also working on irrigation projects aimed at providing assured water for cultivation while promoting horticulture to increase value creation and farm incomes.
The Madanapalle programme will also include the foundation stone ceremony for the Indian School of Agriculture, being established by Reliance. The institution will provide education and training related to agriculture.
Naidu is scheduled to undertake a series of programmes across 5 consecutive days from September 29. These include participation in the Karmayogi Mission programme in Vijayawada, the Palle Panduga programme in Nellore, distribution of house-site pattas to 24,000 beneficiaries, and the Pedala Sevalo pension distribution programme.
On October 2, after the Madanapalle foundation ceremony, he will participate in the Swarna Andhra-Swachha Andhra programme and the annual Swachha Andhra programme in Vijayawada on Gandhi Jayanti. On October 3, he is scheduled to attend the Pan-IIT Conference in Vijayawada.
The Rayalaseema project is part of the state’s broader plan to strengthen horticulture, infrastructure and investment across the region.
