Meta expands AI hardware ambitions with plans for wearable pendant device

As competition in the artificial intelligence hardware market intensifies, Meta is reportedly expanding its ambitions beyond smart glasses with plans for a new generation of AI-powered wearable devices.

According to reports, the company is working on an AI-powered pendant that could function as a voice-based digital assistant worn around the neck. While detailed specifications remain unclear, the device is expected to focus on voice-driven AI interactions and offer users a more personalised and always-accessible digital experience.

The reported plans are part of Meta’s broader strategy to strengthen its presence in the growing AI hardware market. The company is also said to be exploring additional wearable products, including expanded AI glasses and a business-focused initiative called “Wearables for Work”.

The move comes as technology companies increasingly look beyond smartphones and invest in AI-powered wearables, screenless assistants and multimodal devices capable of delivering more natural interactions. Meta is simultaneously expanding its AI infrastructure and assistant capabilities across its apps, smart glasses and future hardware offerings.

The company’s hardware ambitions build on its earlier investments in wearable technology, including AI-enabled smart glasses developed in partnership with eyewear brands. Meta has also strengthened its position in the wearable AI space through the acquisition of Limitless, a startup known for its AI-powered pendant device capable of recording conversations, generating transcripts and creating AI-powered summaries.

Industry observers view wearable AI as a key battleground for the next phase of consumer technology. Companies are increasingly focusing on devices that can provide continuous, context-aware assistance while remaining portable and easy to use.

Although Meta has not officially announced a launch date for the reported AI pendant, the development signals the company’s intention to create a broader ecosystem of AI-powered devices. The strategy reflects a growing shift toward making digital assistants more personal, portable and integrated into everyday life.
