Apple could be exploring a significant change to its iPhone display design for the 20th-anniversary lineup, with early testing reportedly involving a quad-curved screen and a punch-hole cutout.
According to a tipster, the iPhone 20 Pro could feature a 6.41-inch display with a 2686×1236 pixels resolution, while the iPhone 20 Pro Max may get a 6.96-inch panel with a 2912×1340 pixels resolution.
For comparison, the iPhone 18 Pro has a 6.3-inch 2622×1206 pixels display, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max features a 6.9-inch 2868×1320 pixels panel. Both offer 460ppi, and the newer displays are also expected to maintain a similar pixel density despite their larger sizes.
The reported test units are said to use a borderless panel with curves on all 4 edges and a punch-hole cutout. This could mark a shift away from the Dynamic Island used on the iPhone 18 Pro models, which can display up to 3 Live Activities at the same time.
Earlier reports from the same tipster suggested that Apple was working with Samsung on a custom display featuring 4-sided curvature and no polariser layer. Apple was reportedly still adjusting the curvature. A render video leaked earlier this year showed another design with no visible cutout, suggesting the front camera and Face ID hardware could be placed under the display.
Apple has also reportedly worked with Samsung and LG to reduce brightness loss around the curved edges, indicating that the display design remains under development.
The anniversary iPhone is expected in 2027, marking 20 years since the original iPhone. The tipster previously claimed that Apple had begun testing and moulding work for its 2027 iPhone lineup and had referred to the iPhone 19 as a tentative name.
Earlier reports have also suggested that Apple could use a different name for the 20th-anniversary model. Apple has not confirmed the device or its name, and the reported specifications could change before launch.
