India tops global rankings for workplace AI adoption and productivity gains

Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming the way people work in India, with employees and business leaders adopting AI tools at a pace unmatched by other countries. A new study by a global consulting firm has ranked India as the world’s leading market for workplace AI adoption, highlighting significant gains in productivity, efficiency, and employee satisfaction.

According to the AI at Work 2026 report, India recorded the highest levels of AI usage among both frontline employees and managers. The findings indicate that Indian organisations are integrating AI into everyday workflows more aggressively, while employees are embracing the technology to enhance performance and streamline tasks.

The report shows that AI is having a strong impact on employee experience. Around 88% of Indian employees said AI has improved their job satisfaction, making India the highest-ranked market globally in this category. In addition, 70% of frontline AI users reported saving at least 1 full workday every week through the use of AI-powered tools, the highest percentage among all surveyed countries.

The study also found that 96% of Indian workers believe AI has already changed the skills needed for their jobs. This shift is driving both employees and organisations to adapt to new ways of working as AI becomes a core part of business operations.

AI adoption is not limited to employees. Managers and senior leaders are increasingly relying on AI to support decision-making, improve productivity, and manage workflows more effectively. The report highlights that leadership engagement with AI remains a key factor in accelerating adoption across organisations.

The findings further suggest that businesses combining AI investments with a clear business strategy are achieving stronger outcomes than those adopting the technology without a defined approach. The report also points to the growing influence of AI agents, with many employees expecting these systems to take on a larger share of workplace tasks within the next 3 years.

The study reinforces India’s growing position as a global AI powerhouse, with businesses and professionals increasingly using AI to drive innovation, efficiency, and better workplace outcomes.
