Amid shifting global dynamics and ongoing geopolitical tensions, India and Germany have agreed to strengthen cooperation across key sectors including defence, green hydrogen, renewable energy, and critical technologies.
The decision was part of the India-Germany foreign office consultations held in Berlin, co-chaired by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and Germany’s State Secretary Géza Andreas von Geyr. During the visit, Misri also met German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul.
According to an official readout, the discussions focused on reviewing bilateral ties and identifying new areas to expand the strategic partnership. Both sides also exchanged views on global developments, including the West Asia conflict and the Russia-Ukraine war.
Following a comprehensive review of relations spanning trade, security, technology, sustainable development, and mobility, the two countries agreed to deepen collaboration in multiple areas. These include defence and industrial cooperation, digital governance, renewable energy, green hydrogen, innovation, and joint development initiatives in third countries.
The consultations highlighted a shared focus on diversifying partnerships in emerging and critical technologies, while also strengthening existing economic and strategic linkages.
During his visit, Misri also engaged with foreign policy experts, Members of Parliament, and senior officials from Germany’s federal and state governments at the Körber Foundation.
The visit is part of a broader diplomatic engagement that also included France, and follows German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s visit to India in January. It is expected to pave the way for further outcomes at the upcoming India-Germany inter-governmental consultations scheduled later this year.
