In a major effort to combat rising cybercrime activities, the Hyderabad Cybercrime Police arrested 74 individuals from different parts of India during May for their alleged involvement in various cybercrime cases. The action highlights the department’s continued focus on strengthening digital security and tackling organised cyber fraud networks.
During the same period, officials registered 54 FIRs based on complaints received through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP), reflecting ongoing efforts to address cyber-related offences through timely investigation and enforcement.
A key achievement was the execution of “Operation Octopus 3.0”, a nationwide operation targeting a Ghost SIM racket linked to cyber frauds, sextortion schemes, digital arrest scams, and other financial crimes. The operation resulted in the arrest of 66 individuals, including SIM card holders, agents, and suppliers spread across 13 states.
The Cybercrime Police also assisted victims in recovering ₹68.27 lakh across 25 cybercrime cases involving investment frauds, trading scams, impersonation frauds, and other online offences. The recovery highlights the department’s commitment to helping victims reclaim lost funds while pursuing legal action against offenders.
As part of its cyber surveillance initiatives, authorities conducted extensive cyber patrols and identified several online platforms promoting illegal activities. During the operation, 251 social media profiles and 304 advertisements linked to illegal betting operations and fake investment schemes were detected and removed.
Officials have urged citizens to remain vigilant while engaging in online activities and to promptly report suspicious incidents. People are encouraged to use the 1930 cybercrime helpline or the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal to report frauds and seek assistance.
