Google rolls out advanced Gemini reasoning controls across major platforms

In a move aimed at enhancing AI-powered conversations, Google has expanded the availability of Gemini’s Extended Thinking feature across its major platforms, including web browsers, Android devices and iOS applications.

The update gives users greater control over how Gemini processes and responds to queries. Users can now choose between Standard and Extended thinking modes, allowing the AI to spend more time analyzing requests and generating detailed responses when needed.

The feature is available across Gemini’s Flash models and is being rolled out to both free and paid users. By introducing different thinking levels, Google is offering a more flexible experience based on the complexity of a user’s query.

Extended Thinking is designed to improve reasoning and provide deeper analysis by allowing the AI additional processing time before delivering a response. Standard mode, meanwhile, remains focused on faster responses for everyday tasks and simpler questions.

The rollout is taking place across the Gemini web interface as well as Android and iOS platforms, expanding access to advanced AI capabilities for a broader user base. The feature was initially introduced to a limited group of users before being made available more widely.

The update is part of Google’s broader efforts to strengthen Gemini’s capabilities and make AI-powered assistance more effective across different use cases. Alongside the new thinking levels, the company has also been working on deeper integrations and enhancements within the Gemini ecosystem.

With the wider rollout, users can now decide whether they want quicker answers or more in-depth AI reasoning, depending on the task at hand. The move reflects the growing focus on advanced AI experiences and the increasing role of intelligent assistants in daily productivity and decision-making.
