Google has introduced a new feature for the Gemini app that simplifies how users create and share documents. The latest update allows users to generate and export files directly from chat, making the process faster and more seamless.
With this update, users can create downloadable files such as PDFs, Microsoft Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, and Google Workspace files using a single prompt. The company says this feature helps users move from ideas to finished documents without switching between apps.
Gemini now supports a wide range of formats. These include Google Docs, Google Slides, Microsoft Word (.docx), PDF, Plain Text (TXT), and Rich Text Format (RTF). For spreadsheets, users can generate files in Google Sheets, Microsoft Excel (.xlsx), and CSV formats.
The feature also supports technical formats like LaTeX and Markdown (MD), expanding its use for developers and technical users.
According to the company, this update removes the need to copy and paste content across different platforms. For example, users can ask Gemini to create a budget proposal and export it as an Excel file, or turn rough ideas into a structured document that can be saved as a PDF or Word file. Once created, the file can be downloaded directly to a device or exported to Google Drive.
To use this feature, users simply need to enter a prompt describing the file they want to generate, such as drafting a report or creating a spreadsheet. Gemini will then create the file, and users can choose their preferred export format.
The feature is rolling out globally and is available to all Gemini app users, including Google Workspace customers, individual subscribers, and users with personal accounts.
This update builds on recent announcements made at the Google Cloud Next 2026 event. One of the key highlights was Workspace Intelligence, a system designed to understand connections between files, projects, and collaborators across tools like Docs, Slides, and Gmail, enabling more advanced and automated workflows.
