In his new position, Gaurav will lead the strategic evolution of Axis Bank’s virtual banking ecosystem, overseeing customer engagement, digital relationship management, AI-powered sales transformation, and next-generation customer experience initiatives. His elevation comes as the banking sector increasingly adopts artificial intelligence, automation, and digital platforms to enhance customer interactions and service delivery.
Prior to this promotion, Gaurav served as Executive Vice President and Head – Axis Virtual Centre. During his tenure, he played a key role in transforming the bank’s virtual relationship management model, helping the platform expand its reach to millions of customers.
Under his leadership, the Axis Virtual Centre introduced innovations powered by Agentic AI, Generative AI, voicebots, real-time customer assistance, quality monitoring systems, and omnichannel engagement platforms. He also spearheaded AI-driven tele-sales initiatives across teams of more than 5,000 agents while strengthening virtual relationship management services for over 3 million customers.
Earlier, Gaurav headed Third Party Products at Axis Bank, where he expanded bancassurance partnerships, strengthened digital distribution capabilities, and supported the transition from traditional sales models to end-to-end digital customer journeys. He also led the bank’s Life Insurance and Asset Insurance businesses, driving growth across multiple customer segments.
One of the most significant phases of his career was as Head – M&A, Investments & Subsidiary Strategy at Axis Bank. In this role, he led the bank’s inorganic growth strategy, managed strategic investments across fintech, payments, insurance, and financial services, and played a key role in the acquisition and integration of Freecharge.
Before joining the bank’s strategy leadership team, Gaurav held several corporate strategy roles focused on long-term planning, investment management, and mergers and acquisitions. Earlier in his career, he worked with Axis Capital and ICICI Bank in investment banking roles, advising on domestic and cross-border M&A transactions across multiple sectors.
An alumnus of the Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi, Gaurav holds an MBA in Finance and has built a career spanning strategy, technology, innovation, and banking.
His promotion reflects Axis Bank’s continued focus on strengthening digital banking capabilities and AI-driven customer engagement as it advances its transformation agenda.
