FedEx has appointed Garrick Thompson as its new Managing Director for the Philippines, succeeding Maribeth Espinosa following her retirement.
Thompson returns to the Philippines with nearly 19 years of experience at FedEx, having worked across country leadership, sales, integration, customs and compliance, operations and human resources.
Before taking up the new role, Thompson served as Managing Director, Indonesia at FedEx from July 2021. Based in Jakarta, he spent more than 5 years leading the company’s business in Indonesia, gaining extensive country-level leadership experience.
He previously held several roles in the Philippines. From 2017 to 2021, Thompson was Senior Sales Manager in Metro Manila, where he built further experience in commercial leadership and developed a strong understanding of the local market.
Prior to that, he served as Country Integration Lead, supporting FedEx during a period of organisational integration.
Thompson also worked as Manager, Compliance & Customs Clearance for the Philippines, overseeing trade compliance and customs clearance. In the role, he was involved in advocating changes related to customs legislation and regulations, giving him experience across logistics, regulatory compliance and international trade.
His career with FedEx began in New Zealand in 2007, when he joined as a Country HR Specialist. He later moved into operations leadership, serving as Manager, Operations – Gateway, overseeing inbound sort, domestic line-haul and the customs bond.
He subsequently became Manager, Operations – Station, managing pickup and delivery, national dispatch and vendor operations at the Auckland Station.
Before joining FedEx, Thompson worked as an HR Coordinator at Fisher and Paykel Finance in Auckland.
His career progression from human resources to operations, compliance, integration, sales and country leadership has given him broad exposure across the logistics business.
In his new role, Thompson brings together his international leadership experience from Indonesia and his previous experience in the Philippines as he takes charge of FedEx’s business in the country.
