BSNL strengthens rural broadband access with free FTTH installation and BharatNet employment initiative

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has announced the waiver of broadband installation charges for its Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) customers, while also creating new employment opportunities for rural youth through the BharatNet project.

As part of the initiative, BSNL will provide free FTTH internet connections in villages under the Mysuru Business Area. The state-run telecom operator will also offer free Wi-Fi equipment (CPE/ONT) and optical fiber cables under the BharatNet project. Customers will only need to pay for their broadband subscription, as no installation charges will be applicable.

The move is in line with the approach followed by several internet service providers in India, where companies such as Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio offer free installation and Wi-Fi routers to customers opting for long-term plans of at least 3 months.

BSNL has also introduced an opportunity for rural youth to earn income by becoming BharatNet Udyamis (BNUs). Interested individuals can partner with BSNL by registering as BNUs and provide internet services in villages. The company has invited members of the public who wish to obtain a free internet connection or register as a BharatNet entrepreneur to contact their nearest BSNL Customer Service Center.

BSNL has operated one of India’s largest internet service businesses for more than a decade. However, the company has experienced a decline in market share over the years due to the rapid growth of private internet service providers, including Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio. Vodafone Idea has also attempted to expand in the broadband segment through its You Broadband business but has yet to establish a significant presence.

In addition, BSNL has introduced a new broadband plan priced at ₹249. Customers looking for further details about the plan can refer to the company’s official information channels.
