Bosch has announced a major leadership change, with Christian Fischer set to become Chief Executive Officer from July 1. Fischer will succeed Stefan Hartung, who is stepping down after requesting to leave the company’s Board of Management in consultation with shareholders.
Currently serving as Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Fischer will take over the leadership of the world’s largest automotive parts supplier. The company said his appointment reflects strategic continuity, as he has played a key role in shaping Bosch’s business strategy in recent years.
The transition comes as a surprise, as Bosch had announced in October that Hartung’s contract had been extended by another 5 years, which would have kept him in the CEO role until 2031.
Hartung joined Bosch’s Board of Management in 2013 and became Chairman on January 1, 2022. During his tenure, he led the company through a challenging period that included a decline in profits. In April, he outlined plans to improve profit margins by strengthening cost controls while increasing investments in new technologies.
The leadership change also comes at a time when the global automotive supply industry continues to face significant challenges. Companies across the sector are dealing with rising costs, weak market demand, and geopolitical tensions, particularly in the Middle East. These factors have increased pressure on energy prices, supply chains, and overall profit margins.
Bosch said Fischer’s experience and involvement in the company’s long-term strategy position him to lead the organization through the current market environment while maintaining business continuity.
