Bihar Police has identified 3,177 suspected mule bank accounts allegedly linked to cybercrime as part of Cyber PRAHAR-4.0, an ongoing campaign focused on tracing cybercriminals and preventing bank accounts from being misused for illegal transactions.
The Cyber Crime and Security Unit (CCSU), Bihar, has verified 762 of the identified accounts so far. The verification process aims to identify people suspected of involvement in cybercrime and trace their wider networks.
Police have arrested 7 cybercriminals allegedly involved in using mule accounts for cybercrime. Notices under Section 35(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) have also been issued to 7 other suspected cybercriminals.
The campaign has resulted in 15 FIRs related to mule accounts. Technical investigations are now being carried out to trace the operation and users of the accounts, financial transactions and other individuals connected to the suspected cybercrime networks.
CCSU is coordinating with cyber police stations across Bihar to monitor and verify suspected accounts and take timely legal action.
Investigators are also examining the movement of money through bank accounts allegedly used for cybercrime. Through Cyber PRAHAR-4.0, Bihar Police is focusing on identifying the wider networks operating through mule accounts and taking action against those involved.
The campaign is also aimed at preventing the misuse of banking channels for illegal fund transfers by tracing suspicious financial activity and the networks connected to it.
