Blending Indian craftsmanship, traditional textiles and mobile filmmaking, Apple has released a new Diwali campaign titled ‘Step into the Light’. Created in collaboration with Indian fashion brand Raw Mango, the film is directed by its founder, Sanjay Garg, and was shot entirely on the iPhone 18 Pro at Tijara Fort, a restored 19th-century royal palace in Rajasthan.
The film features performers from different parts of India and uses the transition from darkness to light to reflect the spirit of Diwali. The campaign also highlights the smartphone’s low-light camera capabilities.
iPhone 18 Pro camera takes centre stage
According to Apple, the film was captured in low-light settings to demonstrate the iPhone 18 Pro’s camera performance. Its 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera introduces variable aperture technology for the first time on an iPhone.
The system uses 6 laser-cut blades to automatically adjust the aperture based on lighting conditions and depth-of-field requirements. Paired with a new sensor, the camera can widen its aperture to f/1.48 for low-light photography.
Apple has also highlighted Smart Focus Tracking, which keeps performers in focus as they move through choreographed sequences. These features help capture clear images of moving subjects, even in challenging lighting conditions.
Celebrating Indian textiles and craftsmanship
The collaboration also showcases Raw Mango’s work with traditional Indian textiles. The film’s wardrobe features fabrics and weaving styles such as Mashru, Varanasi brocades and Chanderi. The colours were selected to complement the iPhone 18 Pro.
Founded by textile designer Sanjay Garg in 2008, Raw Mango creates saris, garments, objects and experiences inspired by textile and cultural traditions. The brand made its international runway debut at London Fashion Week earlier this year.
‘Step into the Light’ premiered on November 4 through Raw Mango’s global Instagram account and Apple India’s YouTube channel, ahead of Diwali.
Apple has also shared a behind-the-scenes film on Instagram Stories, featuring Garg working on the set with the iPhone 18 Pro.
