A major shift could be on the horizon for Apple’s laptop lineup, as a new leak indicates the company is actively developing a MacBook with touchscreen support. If launched, it would mark the first time Apple brings touch functionality to its MacBook range.

According to a tipster on Weibo, a touchscreen MacBook is “100 percent confirmed” to be in development. While the leak does not reveal the product name or launch timeline, earlier reports have suggested that it could be working on a new high-end MacBook Ultra model.

For years, Apple has maintained a clear separation between MacBooks and iPads, arguing that touch-based interactions are better suited for tablets, while laptops should continue relying on keyboards and trackpads. However, growing demand for touchscreen laptops appears to be influencing the company’s strategy.

Industry reports indicate that the upcoming device may feature a redesigned chassis and a next-generation Apple Silicon processor. It is also expected to be positioned above the current MacBook Pro lineup, making it one of it’s most premium laptop offerings.

The rumoured device could introduce Apple’s first OLED display on a MacBook. Previous reports have suggested that OLED technology and touchscreen functionality may arrive alongside M6-series chips, potentially launching toward the end of 2026.

The “Ultra” branding, if adopted, would place the laptop at the top of Apple’s notebook portfolio, similar to how the Apple Watch Ultra sits above other smartwatch models.

Apple has not officially confirmed the development of a touchscreen MacBook. However, the latest leak adds to growing speculation that the company could be preparing one of the most significant changes to its Mac lineup in recent years.
