Air India Express is preparing to expand its international network by evaluating the launch of non-stop flights to Georgia during the upcoming Winter Schedule, according to sources. The proposed move is part of the airline’s broader strategy to strengthen its presence across short-to-medium haul international markets.
Sources said the planned entry into Eastern Europe will complement the airline’s growing international network. At the same time, Air India Express has restored nearly 80% of its West Asia operations and currently serves 13 destinations across the Gulf, maintaining its strong position on the India-Gulf corridor.
The airline is also focusing on Southeast Asia as a key growth market. Following recent route additions to Bangkok and Phuket, it is evaluating opportunities to expand its presence in Malaysia.
Alongside its international plans, Air India Express is expected to add at least 5 new domestic destinations in 2026. The airline currently operates a network covering 43 domestic and 16 international destinations and continues to expand across South Asia, Southeast Asia, West Asia and potentially Eastern Europe.
According to sources, the airline’s growth strategy is centred on disciplined and sustainable expansion through network and fleet growth while maintaining operational consistency and service standards. Air India Express recently crossed the 100-aircraft milestone, with nearly 2/3 of its fleet made up of new-generation aircraft to support efficiency and expansion.
Since its privatisation in 2022, the airline has nearly doubled its capacity and tripled its market share, making it one of India’s fastest-growing carriers. Passenger traffic has also increased by more than 25% year-on-year, reflecting strong demand across its network.
The airline recently received a 4-Star Skytrax rating in its 1st audit, marking another milestone in its transformation. Originally established as a small airline headquartered in Kochi, Air India Express has grown into a pan-India and international carrier.
Looking ahead, the airline aims to achieve a 25% domestic market share by FY31, supported by plans to expand its fleet to 300 aircraft.
