HDFC Bank’s Board of Directors has approved the appointment of Puneet Sharma as Chief Financial Officer-Designate (CFO-Designate), effective September 1, 2026. He will assume the role of Chief Financial Officer from December 1, 2026, based on the recommendations of the Audit Committee and the Governance, Nomination and Remuneration Committee.
Sharma will succeed Srinivasan Vaidyanathan, whose term as CFO is scheduled to conclude in October 2026.
The Board has also approved the appointment of Jigar Shah as General Counsel-Designate (GC-Designate), effective August 20, 2026. He will take over as General Counsel from October 1, 2026. Both Sharma and Shah will become part of the bank’s Senior Management Personnel from the date they join as CFO-Designate and GC-Designate, respectively.
Puneet Sharma brings more than 26 years of experience across banking, financial services and strategy. Before joining HDFC Bank, he served as Group Executive and Chief Financial Officer at Axis Bank. Earlier, he was Chief Financial Officer at Tata Capital, where he played a key role in strengthening the finance function and supporting the company’s strategic growth and transformation. He has also held leadership positions at Citibank and The Boston Consulting Group, building expertise in banking, treasury, strategy, financial management and business operations.
Jigar Shah brings more than 30 years of experience in legal, compliance, governance and regulatory matters within the banking and financial services sector. Before joining HDFC Bank, he was associated with Elmcroft Consulting Services, where he led complex asset legal, restructuring and recovery mandates for a leading NBFC platform.
Earlier, Shah served as Managing Director and Head of Legal & Compliance at KKR India and was a member of its India Leadership Team. Before that, he was Managing Director and Head of Legal – India at JPMorgan Chase Bank and also held senior legal leadership roles at Deutsche Bank across India, Hong Kong and London. He began his legal career in the United Kingdom, working with leading international law firms.
