Designers may soon find it easier to refine complex projects without rebuilding them from scratch. It has introduced Canva Brush, a new vision-language model designed to edit existing creations through natural language prompts while preserving their original elements.
Developed by Canva Research, the model powers supported AI design tools and can make changes ranging from a single line of text to an entire presentation. Unlike tools focused mainly on generating images, Canva Brush is designed to understand a design’s structure and update selected elements while keeping the rest intact.
Canva Brush focuses on consistent design editing
The model can edit individual lines of copy or make changes across multiple presentation slides. It is built to maintain consistency in typography, colours, spacing, imagery and layouts, including during complex, multi-page edits.
For example, they said users can ask the model to create a 3-page pitch deck for a bakery with Art Nouveau visuals and backgrounds. Canva Brush can plan the content across the pages, generate and position text, select images and maintain a consistent visual style throughout the presentation.
The model uses an agentic process in which it writes and runs code to adjust design elements. It then reviews the resulting page to guide further changes. All generated elements remain editable, allowing users to manually change text, images, colours and layouts whenever needed.
Faster editing at a lower cost
According to Canva, Brush is up to 69% faster at general design editing tasks and 46% cheaper per edit than its previous design agent.
In internal testing, the model matched or exceeded the quality of the earlier setup on most editing tasks. It delivered particularly strong results when restyling designs and adapting them to different formats.
Canva Brush is now available for supported design edits through Canva AI for Pro subscribers. Users can open an existing design in the editor or attach or link one within Canva AI. They can then select Brush from the dropdown menu to start editing.
